Harriett Baldwin MP

Chair of the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee

Harriett is Chair of the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee, which examines the expenditure, administration and policy of HM Treasury, HM Revenue & Customs, and associated public bodies, including the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority. She has long been a champion of greater access to financial advice and guidance.

In 2015, as Economic Secretary to the Treasury, she commissioned the Financial Advice Market Review (FAMR), which made a number of recommendations aimed at providing affordable advice to consumers and increasing the accessibility of advice post-RDR.

In December 2022, she proposed an amendment to the Financial Services and Markets Bill that would ensure everyone has access to personalised financial guidance from appropriately regulated financial services firms. This work formed the background to the current Advice Guidance Boundary Review. Last month, Harriett led a debate on access to financial advice and guidance in support of changes to the boundary. She was elected as the Member of Parliament for West Worcestershire in 2010.
